Every four years, as a presidential election rolls around, business leaders start asking: How will this impact the economy? Will hiring pick up after the election? Should we expect a staffing boom?
I had the opportunity to sit down with Barry Asin, co-author of Breaking Through: Leadership Disciplines from Top Performing Staffing Firms, and a frequent speaker at staffing-industry events. He shared his thoughts on whether election years really drive growth—or if that’s just a common misconception.
Does the Staffing Industry Always See a Post-Election Boost?
Historically, many staffing firms have expected hiring demand to rise after an election, fueled by greater economic certainty and policy clarity. But Barry believes the reality is more complicated.
“Every cycle is different,” Barry said. “I’ve been looking at the industry for more than 20 years, and where we’ve been the last few years is really unusual. We haven’t lived through a pandemic before, and that has left a lasting impact.”
While some post-election hiring rebounds have occurred in the past, Barry emphasized that 2025 is shaping up differently due to lingering economic effects from the pandemic, inflation concerns, and industry-specific slowdowns.
