This week, OpenAI released a preview of Operator, an AI agent that can do things on its own through a dedicated web browser. Initially, the app rolled out to ChatGPT Pro users, though in time OpenAI plans wider distribution.

Agents go beyond AI’s familiar natural-language interaction to step into a realm of greater utility. Rather than simply spit out information or data, they actually do things like taking action, making decisions or solving problems

In HR, agents can identify possible skills gaps and suggest personalized training approaches to address them, for example. In talent acquisition, they can analyze resumes and match candidates to open jobs. On a more prosaic note, TechCrunch said Operator can handle tasks like booking travel, making restaurant reservations or shopping online.
