Roundup: Candidates Leery of ‘Too Much’ AI

Nearly two-thirds of American job seekers, 62% to be exact, said they’d avoid applying to companies that use too much generative AI in their recruiting. Their concern: Not enough input from humans.

A Harris Poll survey, conducted for Express Employment Professionals, found 87% of job seekers say human interviews are important because AI can’t effectively examine soft skills, cultural fit and attitude. Nearly as many, 84%, would rather have a person conduct their initial screening interview, while 84% would prefer to have their cover letter and resume reviewed by a human.

Women are less likely than men to find generative AI appropriate for some aspects of a job application. They’re also less likely to use AI in their own applications. In their view, it’s not appropriate for candidates to use AI when drafting resumes and cover letters, responding to outreach by the employer, creating work samples or completing an online assessment or test. Forty percent of women say they haven’t used generative AI in their search, compared to 27% of men.
