This article is based on a conversation between Brad Bialy and Barry Asin on Take the Stage, a podcast/vodcast presented by Haley Marketing. For this episode and others search for “Secrets of Staffing Success” on your preferred podcast player or watch past episodes on YouTube.

Is the staffing industry finally stabilizing? After years of uncertainty, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of cautious optimism for staffing firms. According to Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA), temporary staffing is projected to grow by 5% this year—a sign that the industry is steadying itself after a few turbulent years.

I had the opportunity to sit down with Barry Asin, co-author of Breaking Through: Leadership Disciplines from Top Performing Staffing Firms, and a frequent speaker at staffing-industry events. He shared his thoughts on where the staffing industry is heading in 2025 and what firms should expect.

Signs of Stabilization in Staffing

According to Barry, the biggest positive shift for staffing firms right now is stabilization.

“We’re looking at about 5% growth in temp help in 2025,” Barry shared. “The long-term underpinnings of the industry remain strong. It’s been a challenging couple of years, but things are starting to look positive.”

While growth may not be massive, the staffing industry is no longer in free fall—and that’s a win.

Which Industries Are Rebounding Faster?

Not all staffing verticals are recovering at the same pace. Here’s what Barry had to say about different industries:

Healthcare Staffing: “Healthcare has been hit really hard, particularly travel nursing. But when I talk to healthcare staffing firms today, they’re feeling better about 2025.”

IT Staffing: “There’s been some uncertainty in IT, especially with AI’s impact on demand for coders. We’re monitoring how that plays out, but we’re already seeing some improvement.”

Light Industrial & Warehousing: “The industry saw unusual growth during the pandemic, and there was a pullback afterward. But now, we’re seeing things stabilize again.”

“Flat is the New Up” – What It Means for Staffing Firms

One of Barry’s biggest takeaways from SIA’s research is that holding steady in 2025 is a sign of success. “The motto we’ve been using at SIA is ‘Flat is the New Up,’” Barry said. “We’re not expecting a huge growth spurt, but we are seeing green shoots. Staffing firms that focus on efficiency, client retention, and long-term strategy will be in a strong position.”

How to Prepare for 2025

Retain and strengthen client relationships – Focus on quality over quantity
Leverage automation and AI – Work smarter, not harder
Adapt to shifting hiring trends – Different industries are recovering at different speeds
