INDIANAPOLIS—Powderkeg, the place to plug into tech in the center of the country, today announced early-access to “Matches,” a community-powered job matching tool that complements the Powderkeg Culture Directory. Matches, which pairs prospective employers and employees based on culture fit, is now available for early access to those impacted by the current economic climate.

Jobless claims in the United States have reached 26 million, and according to data from a recent Gallup poll, 25% of Americans estimate they will lose their job in the next year. Matches will help pair workers displaced by the pandemic with technology companies that are hiring based on traditional qualifiers, like location, skill set and job availability, but also employee culture fit.

“Unlike traditional job boards, Matches allows us to leverage real relationships and information from thousands of companies to connect talent with real-time hiring needs and hard-to-find opportunities,” said Matt Hunkler, CEO of Powderkeg. “With so much uncertainty, now is an important time for us to come together as a tech community, especially those between the coasts, and early access to our community-powered job-matching offering is one way we can aid in that effort.”

Based on data from Powderkeg’s Culture Directory and the insights of vetted referrers, Matches pairs prospective employees with companies based on location, benefits, technology and the style of leadership the company’s executives exhibit. Based on recent data from a survey of eight tech hubs in the center of the country, Powderkeg found that company culture is the primary reason why tech professionals both join and leave a tech company.

“Culture isn’t just something that impacts current employees. It characterizes how your organization supports individuals, your community and your tech ecosphere. Your approach to an employee’s exit is a reflection of those values and attitudes,” said Keegan Jiles, talent acquisition manager at hc1. “In this trying time, it’s important for companies not to forget that. Tech company leaders should leverage resources like Matches as a tool to not only grow their teams but to also give back to their tech ecosystem by promoting Powderkeg’s candidate platform during the off-boarding process.”

Early access to Matches is available now to help connect those displaced due to the pandemic and economic recession with new employment opportunities. Powderkeg will offer Matches for general availability later in 2020.
