SAN FRANCISCO — HiringCafe, an AI-powered job discovery search engine, announced Monday that it has raised $6.8 million in pre-seed funding and launched a new automated “AI Talent Agent” designed to search open roles on behalf of candidates.
The round was led by Spark Capital, with participation from Nonfiction Capital, Silicon Gardens, and angel investors from hiring giants ZipRecruiter and Indeed.
Unlike legacy job boards that operate primarily on sponsored-listing and advertising business models, HiringCafe positions itself as an exhaustive internet-wide search engine. Traditional aggregators typically surface about 20% of active job openings—mostly sponsored posts from large corporations—leaving millions of applicants to fight over the same visible positions.
By deploying automated agents and web-indexing algorithms to crawl company career pages directly, HiringCafe claims its index exceeds 5.7 million open roles—up to 400% more than leading traditional job boards.
Tackling Ghost Jobs and Keyword Fatigue
Legacy hiring platforms have increasingly come under fire from both sides of the hiring table. Candidates face keyword-matching filters and widespread “ghost jobs”—postings that remain active despite no hiring taking place—while employers are flooded with low-quality, automated mass applications.
HiringCafe’s platform attempts to solve this breakdown by offering:
- 24/7 AI Talent Agents: Automated scouts that monitor the live database around the clock and alert users immediately when matching positions go live.
- Resume-Based Matching: Contextual analysis of candidate skills and experience rather than superficial keyword matching.
- Active Listing Verification: Algorithmic filters that weed out ghost postings to ensure applicants only spend time on genuinely open roles.
- Zero Cost to Seekers: The platform remains completely free for job seekers without subscription paywalls.
“We realized that the modern job hunt is fundamentally broken because legacy platforms operate on an advertising model, not a true search model,” said co-founder Hamed Nilforoshan. “They only show you the 20% of jobs that companies pay to promote, which creates hyper-competition and widespread burnout. By using AI to index the entire long tail of the job market, we are finally bringing the other 80% of jobs out of the dark.”
From Viral Spreadsheet to 2 Million Users
HiringCafe began in 2022 as an informal side project when co-founder Ali Mir left his job to launch an HR startup. Following a wave of tech layoffs, Mir created and shared a spreadsheet tracking 10,000 hard-to-find startup jobs to assist colleagues and friends.
The list gained viral traction across social media and Reddit, proving widespread demand for non-aggregated, unpromoted listings. Nilforoshan, then working toward a Ph.D. at Stanford, later teamed up with Mir to scale the project into a full-scale search platform. Driven primarily by word-of-mouth and online communities, the site had already amassed over 2 million monthly active users prior to this institutional capital raise.
