Staffing is changing.
AI, automation, and digital platforms are reshaping the industry, and many firms are wondering: Where do recruiters fit in a tech-driven world?
I sat down with Barry Asin, staffing industry expert and co-author of Breaking Through: Leadership Disciplines from Top Performing Staffing Firms, to discuss how firms can blend technology and human connection to stay competitive in 2025 and beyond.
Is Tech Replacing Recruiters?
The short answer? No. “Technology is changing staffing, but the basics remain the same,” Barry said. “At the end of the day, staffing is about connecting companies that need talent with workers looking for jobs. That’s still a people business.”
However, Barry emphasized that the firms that will thrive are those that embrace technology as a tool—not as a replacement for recruiters.
How Staffing Firms Can Blend Tech & Human Connection
The best staffing firms will use technology to enhance, not replace, human interaction.
-
Use AI to Work Smarter, Not Harder
Automate resume screening, scheduling, and candidate outreach to save recruiters time.
Use AI-driven insights to improve job-to-candidate matching for better placements. “AI isn’t about replacing recruiters—it’s about making them more efficient,” Barry said.
-
Prioritize Personalization
Tech can’t replace genuine human relationships.
Recruiters should focus on personalized communication, career coaching, and long-term candidate engagement. “People still want to work with people,” Barry explained. “Candidates and clients value staffing firms that take the time to understand their needs.”
-
Offer a Seamless Digital Experience
Candidates expect convenient, user-friendly applications and communication.
Self-service portals for job tracking, pay history, and onboarding can enhance the candidate experience. “Think about how companies like Amazon and Uber have made transactions easier,” Barry said. “Staffing firms need to apply that same thinking to the hiring process.”
The Future: Tech-First, People-Centric Staffing
The staffing firms that win in the future will be tech-driven but people-first. “This industry is always evolving, and those who adapt will thrive,” Barry said. “The key is to embrace technology while keeping the human element at the core of what you do.”
